In 2013, the Red Bull Music Academy set up shop in New York City. As with every Academy, we put on events throughout the city that both showcased the enormous talent of the participants as well as paid tribute to the huge impact that New York has had on music history. New York City’s first Culture Clash, Giorgio Moroder’s first U.S. DJ gig, Brian Eno’s 77 Million Paintings exhibit, public lectures with Erykah Badu and James Murphy – it was a jam-packed collection of shows.
Though the Red Bull Music Academy is moving on to Tokyo in 2014, we’re happy to announce the first annual Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York. As a legacy to last year’s Academy, the month-long series of music and art events will become a yearly NYC tradition, starting this May.
For the inaugural festival we’ve got a public lecture with D’Angelo, a street party celebrating dance music legend Larry Levan, David Byrne paying homage to William Onyeabor, Hudson Mohawke’s first live show and much, much more.
