Five Memphis Police Officers Were Arrested and Charged For The Murder of Tyre Nichols. Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Justin Smith have been fired from the Memphis Police Department and charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct, and official oppression. The former officers were indicted by a grand jury on Thursday (January 26) and booked into the Shelby County Jail following the January 7 traffic stop that led to Nichols death.

Tyre Nichols was pulled over for allegedly “reckless driving” on January 7 of this year. Officers pulled him out of his car and simply beat him up and left him hospitalized. He died 3 days later. Body cam footage was released Friday and the disturbing and heinous video has been circulating the internet.
