NBA Teams Boycott Games Over Jacob Blake Shooting

After the murdering of Breonna Taylor on March 13th and the murdering of George Floyd on May 25th of this year both by the bloody hands of law enforcement, protests and civil unrest are at an all time high. Even athletes are fed up. When the NBA moved its games to “The Bubble” the players biggest fear was their messages may not be heard. The players, front office personnel and league officials worked together to brand the court and jerseys with messages encouraging social justice. This fell on def ears.

This past Sunday afternoon the city Kenosha, Wisconsin, Jacob Blake was shot 7 times in the back by a police officer. In front of his 3 children. Paralyzing him. The NBA players said enough is enough and the Milwaukee led the charge with a boycott of their game 5 playoff game Wednesday afternoon. Then The Thunder and Rockets and other teams followed suit.

A meeting was then called for all of the players, coaches, staff, league and team execs etc to talk about what can they do moving forward and if the players want to continue on with the season. The Lakers and Clippers were ready to leave the bubble. Imagine the NBA playoffs without the two teams who are favorites to win it all? Talks went on through Thursday as games were cancelled/ boycotted whichever you’d like to go with. All parties came together and games will resume Saturday. The players league execs are working towards a number of things to help communities and get laws changed by asking these team owners to get in touch with their friends and allies in these government offices to work swiftly to get things done.

BTW, I am proud of my brothers in the NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL who took a stand. I am also proud of my sisters in the WNBA for taking a stand as well. They love our culture, but don’t love us.
